The popularity of Filipino-American Experience classes in the colleges and universities indicates a need by our youth to know their heritage and history as a people in US society. Middle and High School curricula now include multiculturalism and diversity in the social science, language arts and history classes. However, these schools are limited by their lack of materials or resources about Filipino-Americans. Our present challenge is to make the Filipino-American experience part of the mainstream secondary educational curriculum. We need to provide these schools with age-appropriate books, essays, or other resources such as cultural performances, etc. To meet this challenge, we will:
Identify Middle and High schools with a number of Filipino-American students;
Identify and procure age-appropriate materials for dissemination to these schools;
Identify funding sources for this program,
Identify and secure donations in kind from the wealth of Filipino heritage performers in the community.
